Vineyard estate

For us, as dedicated wine makers, nature is not only a precious companion but moreover an important mentor. We have collaborated for five generations but we are still faced with new challenges every year. Only healthy soil and healthy grapevines are able to produce the best grapes. It’s our duty to support and protect nature by working together with her. It’s our main responsibility and we take it seriously – we don’t concede to governmental rules or private quality seals. Significantly, we are working environmentally and are conscious of every step we take. We only use pest control that protects our useful creatures in the vineyard and we only apply conservation fertilizer to the soil. We also avoid plastic and minimize the use of tractors and emissions. It’s just a question of methodology. For us it’s simple. As close to nature as possible; as flexible as required.

Nature doesn’t conform to rules. She’s writing them.

During the production of our wine, our highest premise is to do everything by ourselves. It involves working by hand in the vineyard and the careful vinification. But most importantly, it’s us and our experience that makes our wines consistently better and better every time. Our vines grow on 37 acres (15 hectares) around the region of Langenlois – a comparatively small area for this region – so we are more able to focus on artisanal winemaking and the individual care of our vineyards. The decisions on how to grow our grapes, how much time the wine needs to mature – in wood barrels or premium steel – is just about right. Judging the perfect moment of when to bottle the wine is just one of a few things that Ludwig would never hand over the reins – as well as the key to his tractor. Michaela is the one who calls the shots during the grape harvest and always has a friendly ear for our customers. She knows the perfect bottle for everyone’s individual taste, whilst Marianne can read the wine-mind of our customers. Born in Langenlois with her roots firmly planted between the vines, she complements our small but ambitious team just perfectly.

Everyone starts on a shoestring. We stayed there quite happily.
